Review

“....an intellectual tour de force wresting with Marc Bloch’s original quest to interrogate the purpose, meaning, and methodology of the historian’s craft....this will be a ‘must have’ book for introducing students to the study of history, especially at the graduate level.”—Dorothy Porter, Professor in the History of Health Sciences, University of California, San Francisco
(Dorothy Porter 2012-09-27)

"I can think of no really comparable recent book…Writing History in the Age of Biomedicine may turn out to be quite significant as a touchstone for the internal critique of historical scholarship in the first decade of the current century.”—William Summers, Yale University
(William Summers 2012-10-03)

"In the 21st century there is no arena of history more contested than that of biomedicine. Roger Cooter’s Writing History in the Age of Biomedicine (written with Claudia Stein) is the first serious attempt to look at the historiography of medicine as an index of the debates about meaning and its generation within these debates.  Whether examining questions of biopower in biomedical science, the new materialism and its claims at truth, or looking at the analysis of specific themes, such as the history of HIV/AIDS and its representation, Cooter and Stein provide detailed and critical looks at the shifting assumptions within the history of biomedicine.  This is more than an important book from two seminal thinkers:  it is a call to examine the shifts in the writing of bio-history and their underlying political assumptions."—Sander Gilman, author of Difference and Pathology
(Sander Gilman 2012-12-12)

"In this gnarly and very personal meta-historiography, scholar-provocateur Roger Cooter dishes the political epistemological dirt.  Essay by essay, Cooter’s pilgrim progress goes through a dizzying spin cycle of social, literary, cultural, pictorial, neuroscientific, material turns."—Michael Sappol, author of A Traffic of Dead Bodies: Anatomy and Embodied Social Identity in 19th-Century America
(Michael Sappol 2013-01-23)

This book examines the relationship between medicine and the media in 1960s Britain, when the first wave of heart transplants were as much media as medical events and marked a decisive period in post-war history. Public trust in their doctors was significantly undermined, and medicine was held publicly to account as never before.

Privacy and Disclosure of Hiv in interpersonal Relationships: A Sourcebook for Researchers and Practitioners PDF

Rating: Author: ISBN : Product Detai New from Format: PDF
Download PRETITLE Privacy and Disclosure of Hiv in interpersonal Relationships: A Sourcebook for Researchers and Practitioners POSTTITLE from mediafire, rapishare, and mirror link As the HIV epidemic enters its third decade, it remains one of the most pressing health issues of our time. Many aspects of the disease remain under-researched and inadequate attention has been given to the implications for the relationships and daily lives of those affected by HIV. Disclosing an HIV diagnosis remains a decision process fraught with difficulty and despite encouraging medical advances, an HIV diagnosis creates significant anxiety and distress about one's health, self-identity, and close relationships.

This book provides an overarching view of existing research on privacy and disclosure while bringing together two significant areas: self-disclosure as a communication process and the social/relational consequences of HIV/AIDS. The unifying framework is communication privacy management and the focus of this volume is on private voluntary relational disclosure as opposed to forced or public disclosure. Utilizing numerous interviews with HIV patients and their families, the authors examine disclosure in a variety of social contexts, including relationships with intimate partners, families, friends, health workers, and coworkers. Of note are the examinations of predictors of willingness to disclose HIV infection, the message features of disclosure, and the consequences of both disclosure and non-disclosure.

This volume, with its personal exercises and sources of additional information, offers an invaluable resource for individuals living with HIV and their significant others, as well as for professionals in the fields of health communication, social and health psychology, family therapy, clinical and counseling psychology, relationship research, infectious disease, and social service.

Managing Health Programs and Projects PDF

I thought that the book would be more specific in mentioning HEALTH related subjects but it's like a project management book with the word "health" thrown in a couple times. At least it's light weight so I can walk around with it more than a regular project management text.
By L. K. Richardson
Really great resource and information in this book, however a bit dry and difficult to read, but not as bad as listening to the author in person!
