Healing the Soul Wound: Counseling with American Indians and Other Native Peoples PDF

I have to say this book is fabulous, despite the odd minor criticism. I actually brought a few things on the subject of cultural clarity to the attention of the author who was welcoming of feedback and whom showed interest in reading some of my own culture's perspective on these issues. On the whole this book does much positively in the way of challenging the status-quo perspective on personal wellbeing and mental health issues in our society today. We have at large one of the most serious crises affecting our world today - that of soul loss and spiritual/cultural disenfranchisement on an epidemic scale, which is at the root, the underlying cause, of all the wars and conflicts of countless varieties on the face of the earth.

Eduardo's book teaches readers much concerning the need for the psychotherapeutic/psychiatric branch of the Western medical profession to become more open to deferring expertise or know-how to worldviews which have for decades, if not centuries, been ignored and downplayed as "irrational and/or unrealistic" in being able to offer genuine solutions to many problems in society at large today. Native cultures right across the globe have been blessed with much insight from the Creator, for at one time, all populations shared a common experience. It is a fact that now as in the more recent history, even back to the more recent ancient history that feudal hegemony in the West has had a magnitudinous effect on severing the tie between the West and the knowledge of how social structure critically influences how people within society engage with each other and the wider creation.

The Massachusetts General Hospital/McLean Hospital Residency Handbook of Psychiatry PDF

This book was smaller and thinner than I thought it would be for the price I was paying, but after I looked inside, I realized that it was packed with the essentials and no junk! It is a very useful tool that I wish I had in my 1st and 2nd years of residency in Psychiatry, especially when I was on the inpatient and consultation/liason services. It is still useful for the latter years of residency though.

This is one of the newest handbooks out there!!!( i personally own a number of them)..I must state that its one of the best I have seen so far...pretty comprehensive for its size..some highlights are the focus on approach to different clinical situations which are very well written and immensely useful in clinical practice(such as being Oncall!!)..I would highly recommend this book to fellow residents!!!

Horizons PDF

I purchased this book through my school bundled with the workbook and online registration code. This is a looseleaf book and cannot be sold back through the college bookstore nor, as of this writing, through Amazon (look for that little "Book Trade-In" banner by Amazon). I am not thrilled with this purchase.

The looseleaf version does not withstand normal wear and tear. In fact, it is more likely to lose pages if you leave it unbound. It will become damaged through normal use even if you put it in a binder (the holes become torn) and you are likely to lose pages due to this damage.

Having seen both the fourth edition and the fifth edition, I can honestly say that there is no significant difference. There are some students in my class who are able to use the fourth edition book with little to no issue while we are reading from the fifth edition.

The audio portion of the book does not work well. To access the audio, you must purchase an online access code through Cengage ($35). The audio tracks do not stream fully so you must download the entire track. In theory, online access is a good idea because anywhere you have access to the internet, you can access helpful tools along with the audio, but it is poorly implemented and extremely flawed. My class has had problem after problem accessing the online portion of it.

If, however, you have problems with carrying too much weight to class, using this looseleaf book could be your best bet. If you know which pages you'll need for the class, you can leave a majority of the book at home while only bringing with you the pages you need. This can prevent damage to the book, but if you are like me, you need the entire book for reference purposes.

Human Anatomy PDF

I used this book for an undergraduate Anatomy course, it is virtually THE SAME as the 5th edition with the exception of a few (four to be exact) pictures. Do you need the new photos?? No. Why? Because they are shown in other parts of the book anyways.
The only other difference is that they "updated" a select few of the "old terms" to "newer terms" (terms NOT widely used or taught) it caused a huge problem when referring to something specific in lectures and labs, our instructor even had our class cross them out or add the more commonly used terms to our books.
The book is also massive and very awkwardly shaped; it will not fit into any book bag or backpack ever. Sadly I was one of the only students in my class who's book binding lasted through the semester too--everyone had problems with pages falling out and the binding simply ripping apart. Sad because at over a hundred dollars it should make it through a simple 18 week class!! I worked in a bookstore for years and was shocked as I've never seen that happen to so many people.
My advice is to buy an older edition as it's more than half the cost.

This book was required for an Anatomy 1 class. I elected to buy it new through Amazon thinking that it would be the same as the package available from the school bookstore. While I saved about $50.00, I did not receive the CD and the atlas that was packaged with the bookstore version; this fact was not clearly stated in the book description. Otherwise, I have no complaints. Oh wait, yes I do - the book weighs a ton and is very unweildy.
