The Practice of Statistics in the Life Sciences: w/Student CD PDF
I am using this book for an online introductory graduate bio-statistics course. I have never been more frustrated with a book! My class is in essence an independent study - read the text, learn the subject matter and take a test - and oh my, this book does not provide the resources to learn basic bio stats. There is too little explanation and way too many "check your skills", "test your knowledge" etc. with answers to only 50% of the questions and without any explanation. It comes with a cd rom that is suppose to be helpful - not - again, very little instruction. In today's world of statistics it is just as important to learn the technological tools that can provide the correct answers, this book fails in this area as well. From a students perspective if you are an instructor reconsider another text, if you are student and stuck with this book - figure out additional resources early on!By student
This book is awful...the explanations are lacking, and the examples get worse and worse with each chapter. Sometimes, I have to flip back a couple of chapters to figure out where the authors got the numbers for the examples. Also, there are formulas that are in the notes (provided by the authors of the book to my professor) that tie in formulas from previous chapters to the current chapter...but without them I would be lost. The examples are supposed to be clear, so I can LEARN how to apply formulas and concepts. I can't stand this book, and the notes provided to my professor have had multiple mistakes. If you have to use this book, good luck. If you're getting it to learn on your own, do not bother.By FrustratedStudent
