Johns Hopkins Internal Medicine Board Review: Certification and Recertification: Expert Consult - Online PDF
The John Hopkins Internal Medicine Board Review (IMBR) 4th edition fits with my learning / review style, and is definitely helpful in my preparation for recertification. I maintained a full practice while studying for 3 months, averaging 24 hours of study a week, prior to the recertification exam in May 2012.
What I like:
- 75 chapters packed with essential information in easy to digest outline format
- High quality glossy prints, photos, tables, figures, flow charts, pleasing and variable fonts, color coded throughout, easy on the eyes
- Book opens flat on table or table top book stand (I eat and read daily to save time)
- Very easy to flip to the desired topic for quick review or refresh
- Online access(not pdf format, but text search or topic search is a lot quicker)
- Online review questions - can be taken many times, prior answers not saved.
- Review questions are different from board questions in format and presentation. Board questions tend to pack more patient's data, physical exam, social or family histories, on top of a few relevant clues. Review questions are good for finding weakness areas for more review.
- Very good chest X ray reproductions and review. Dermatology pictures are fantastic. All pictures are very good indeed.
- Book and online access = very inexpensive, available on demand, no travel required.
- Chapter 1 most valuable advices - Maximizing Test Performance: Effective Study and Test-taking Strategies. I consider this a FAQ about board exam prep, and went over many times.
What I do not like:
- Information overload causes waste of time, anxiety.
