The Pharmacy Technician PDF
I passed on the first try but there were a lot of unnecessary information in this book. For example, the first chapter is on the history of pharmacy and how Imhotep was a pharmacist for Egypt. The book didn't really emphasize what you actually needed to know for the PTCE although it did cover a very wide range of information. Other all, I guess I can't complain too much since I passed.By tenshi0019
Make sure you know your:
1) math calculations 2) classifications of drugs (schedule 1-5) 3) compounding (which scales to use for different measurements, what kind of mortar and pestle to use, etc) 4) different types of hoods and when they should be used (ex: laminar hood) 5) which forms to to use (ex: DEA 41) 6) laws/acts (ex: HIPAA) 7) brand name and generic names of drugs as well as function. This wasn't a huge part of the test but I do suggest knowing the main ones (ex: metroprolol). Off the top of my head, tadalafil was one of the medications for which I needed to know the function of. 8) terminology
This is the only book I used to study for the PTCE, and I passed the test after only studying this book for about 2 months. I've never worked as a pharmacy technician, although I have taken college Biology classes, etc.By wasp624
The book was great--even the parts that I thought might have been going into too much extraneous detail ended up helping me on the test.
