I purchased thus book for a class. It was easy to read and understand. The questions in the back helped to assure your understanding! I would recommend it highly!

What I found interesting about this book was, that it not only explains the theories, it also give a short biography on each theorist as well. I enjoyed reading their personal background, which helps explain some of their theories at times. I found this was especially true with Freud. These biographies also help explain why some of the theorist added to Freud's theory of psychoanalysis and why some, such as Karen Horney, back lashed at Freud and said that men had womb envy and she placed a greater emphasis on social relationships, "to Horney, people are motivated not by sexual or aggressive forces but by the needs for security and love." All in all, no one theory is best alone. People are too complex to be suited up to only one theory. This book along with the Personality Theory Workbook, really helps put these theories into everyday perspectives. In my psych of personality class we would read the chapter and then get into groups and use the workbook to answer the questions about the case pertaining to the theory. It is a great class and really gives a great understanding of personality and how to apply the theories.
